Day in the Life - Luke Housley, Business Unit Leader
The Role
Sum up your job in one sentence:
I lead the Lec Medical brand reporting into Glen Dimplex Home Appliances, helping deliver trusted cold storage solutions to healthcare professionals while building a high-performing, professional team.
What does a typical day look like for you?
No two days are the same. I try to be involved in everything, from checking stock levels, product updates, and NPI activities, to ensuring after-sales operations run smoothly and that our service meets the standards our customers expect. I also focus on delivering our strategy and results to the wider group. Since joining 10 months ago I have tried to understand every aspect of the business and implement improvements where possible. I balance strategy, customer engagement, team development and driving business growth, but try to do it while having fun with our amazing team of people.
Where do you spend most of your time (road, office, home)?
A mix of office, customer visits, and remote working, wherever I can make the biggest impact. I am always happy to travel to see our partners either in the UK or overseas and have had some fantastic trips to customers in Europe, with Sweden being an absolute highlight!
What might surprise people about your job?
How much of my role is about people. Supporting and developing the team is just as important as driving results and we are building something really special at Lec Medical. Our relationships with our partners have never been stronger and that’s because we have a team of people who genuinely care.
Customers
What do customers value most about Lec Medical?
Reliability, quality, and trust. We're not afraid to talk about the challenges we've faced over the last couple of years because they've helped us become stronger, improve our offering in terms of service and quality, and deliver even greater value to our customers.
Why is your role important in healthcare?
We help ensure vital medicines, vaccines, and samples are stored safely, protecting patient outcomes every day. While healthcare professionals and scientists are the real heroes on the front line, we're proud to support their work with products they can trust.
Team
How would you describe the Lec Medical team?
Passionate, knowledgeable, and always willing to go the extra mile. We have a team that genuinely cares about our customers, takes ownership of challenges, and is committed to doing the best possible job for them every day. We also have a laugh in the Teams chat, which is important.
What do you enjoy most about working here?
Working with great people and seeing the positive impact our products have across healthcare. I'm also incredibly proud of how far the Lec Medical brand has come over the last year. The progress we've made is a real team effort, building on the hard work and vision of colleagues such as James Hebblethwaite, who helped pioneer many of the improvements before I joined. It's been fantastic to continue that journey with the team and see the positive difference it's making for our customers.
Personal
What do you enjoy outside of work?
My wife is a teacher, and we have an unwritten rule that we make the most of every school holiday by getting away somewhere new. This year’s itinerary includes Singapore, several European destinations, and, if everything goes to plan, Shanghai.
How do you unwind after a busy week?
Usually with a busy weekend, I don’t like sitting still! I’m a keen, if not particularly talented, golfer so I play when I can and the rest of the time I am a taxi service for my 2, dance obsessed, daughters.
