Access Port

What Is the Access Port on a Lec Medical Appliance and Why Should You Use It?

2 min read
Maintaining accurate temperature monitoring is essential when storing vaccines, medicines and other temperature-sensitive products. That's why all Lec Medical refrigerators and freezers are equipped with a dedicated access port, sometimes referred to as a porthole, allowing secondary monitoring probes to be installed without affecting the appliance's door seal or performance.

What Is the Access Port?

The access port is a small opening built into the cabinet of the appliance, designed specifically to allow probes and cables from secondary temperature monitoring equipment to be placed inside the unit without affecting its performance.

By routing monitoring probes through the access port, users can independently verify internal temperatures while ensuring the appliance door remains fully closed and properly sealed.

Why Is It Important?

Opening the door or running cables through the door seal can create gaps that allow warm air to enter the cabinet. This can affect temperature stability, increase energy consumption and potentially compromise the storage conditions of temperature-sensitive contents.

The access port eliminates this issue by providing a dedicated route for monitoring equipment, helping to:

  • Maintain the integrity of the door seal
  • Support accurate temperature monitoring
  • Reduce the risk of temperature fluctuations
  • Allow the use of secondary monitoring or validation equipment
  • Ensure optimal appliance performance

Where Can I Find It?

Depending on the model, the access port is located either on the bottom left-hand side or bottom right-hand side of the appliance when viewed from the front.

Its position allows cables and probes to be installed neatly and securely, without interfering with everyday operation of the refrigerator or freezer.

Using the Access Port

When installing a temperature probe or monitoring device:

  1. Locate the access port on your appliance.
  2. Carefully feed the probe or sensor cable through the opening.
  3. Position the probe according to the monitoring equipment manufacturer's instructions.
  4. Ensure the cable is not under tension and does not obstruct shelving or stored products.
  5. Confirm the door closes fully and seals correctly.

Using the access port correctly helps maintain accurate temperature monitoring while protecting the performance and efficiency of your Lec Medical appliance.

If you're unsure about the location of the access port on your specific model, refer to your product manual or contact the Lec Medical support team for guidance.
